Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Bridge Street runs from Kelso Bridge to The Square, and today features a mixture of private and commercial properties, many dating from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. These include the splendid Ednam House Hotel, an elegant manse, and The Queen's Head Hotel, an early nineteenth-century coaching inn. The town's war memorial, a tall cross standing on a plinth with carved panels, stands on Bridge Street, designed to be one of the first things to be seen when crossing Kelso Bridge. Nos 9-11 Bridge Street, now partly occupied by a shop, was the first house in Kelso to have gaslight fitted.
