Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Woodmarket is one of the oldest streets in Kelso, appearing on the earliest maps of the town. Its buildings are mostly tenements, built in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and often feature ground-floor shops. As with several other streets and lanes in the town, its name reflects its origins. However, by the nineteenth century Woodmarket was home to the town's impressive Corn Exchange building and several seed traders had their premises here.
