NS47SW 72 c. 40 74

See also NS47SW 27 Bowling Swords; Chape

(Gundlingen type, variant D). Near Renfrew, Dunbarton. Dredged from River Clyde on the Dunbarton side. Complete sword, length 65.95cm, terminal width 3.05cm, shoulder width 5.60cm, maximum blade width 3.05cm, tip missing. Well cast but some holes apparent. Dark brown patina, rough in texture; rivets 2: 4, none in situ. Glasgow, Kelvingrove Museum (GAGM 26-49, Dept. of the Environment collection).
